I welcome that duty calls for me to head to New England each year right after Labor Day. There is the annual gathering of New England Ski areas and related vendors/suppliers each year at this time of the year as we prepare for our next winter ski and snowboard season.

This year my travel day to get here fell on September 11. Truly a day we all remember where we were in the early hours of that fateful day.  It is always a long day of travel going from Colorado to Maine. But once at the destination I get to settle in for a few days at The Bethel Inn & Resort. Truly a classic New England hotel and resort with great meals and spacious rooms. And yes there is wifi here for those, like me, who need it to be able to go away.  The resort has a golf course on location, a spa, several restaurants, an engaging pub and in winter cross country skiing right from the location. Ski shop and a golf pro shop on premise as well.

One pleasant discovery was the dining across the street from The Bethel Inn at 22 Broad Street at Gideon Hastings House. The dining and atmosphere was spot on. The place is a classic New England 5 room B & B with excellent dining. The owners Amy and John were working that evening and the service was impeccable. I particularly liked how they made adjustments on the meal I requested. There were mussels on the menu as an appetizer and I really wanted mussels and pasta as a main course. They gladly accommodated and made an entrée as requested that was perfect. Their martini’s (advertising 20 specialty martini's) are also one of their specialties and combined with a fine wine selection, The initial visit and experience was certainly one that assures I will visit them again on my next visit to Bethel and Sunday River area.
