Mountain Update April 28: Big snows, free snow cat skiing, free lift tickets...

The calendar may say the end of April and May is up next but there is another storm delivering the goods with deep winter powder across the Rockies. Locally, Loveland Ski Area has received several feet of snow this week and is in the bulls eye through the weekend. With a deep base and free snow cat skiing off the Ridge there is some of the best powder turns of the year to be had this weekend. Get out and enjoy and we just posted a new coupon to save on the lift tickets. Great deal on their season pass as well for the 2017.18 season.

We wanted to point out and give a shout out to Purgatory Ski Area in the southwest of Colorado who is offering up free lift tickets as they open for one more weekend to celebrate a season of epic snow.

Aspen & KSL Capital Partners Purchase Intrawest and Mammoth Resorts

The last several days has seen mountain resort consolidation stepped up considerably with Aspen Skiing Company and KSL Capital Partners partnering to form a new mega resort group. The initial announced purchase of Intrawest Resort for $1.5 billion and now the Mammoth Resorts collection. This newly formed entity will have the 4 Aspen Resorts - Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, Snowmass, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Steamboat, Winter Park, Stratton, Mont Tremblant, Blue Mountain, Snowshoe, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit under one umbrella.

This new lineup will be certain to spur more resort consolidation after Vail Resorts added Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont recently to enter the eastern market. What will the next moves be from POWDR Corp, Boyne and others? Existing pass products sold for the 2017.18 season will still be honored. The questions becomes how do products like the Mountain Collective, Max Pass and others evolve and what new forms will emerge.
