Whaleback Mountain is now a locally owned non profit operated by the Upper Valley Snowsports Foundation. There are many great programs and services they provide. Please support the local mountain's efforts as they are a cornerstone in our communities to keep people outdoors and active. Here is some background.

Why UVSSF Has Purchased and Is Enhancing Whaleback Mountain

The UVSSF, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), has purchased Whaleback Mountain Parcel A and associated assets. This purchase is in line with UVSSF’s mission to support snow sports in the Upper Valley. There are a number of compelling reasons driving this mission:
Whaleback is an invaluable community asset that serves thousands of adult and youth winter sports enthusiasts annually;
Whaleback offers programs and pricing that allow a large Upper Valley population to participate in snow sports who otherwise could not afford to;
It has been made evident that there is a significant need for a training facility that caters to the alpine and freestyle disciplines in both skiing and snowboarding;
There is a noteworthy number of youths who do not participate in traditional team sports who greatly benefit from Whaleback and related programs;
The purchase of Whaleback by a nonprofit provides an opportunity for making Whaleback a sustainable business, therefore greatly extending its life as a community asset.

UVSSF feels strongly that Whaleback’s benefit to the community must be preserved and strengthened and that its future can best be secured by the nonprofit’s purchase.

Educational Programs & Camps
Over 300 youths attended affordable weekly after school instructional programs. These students come from nine towns: Canaan, Enfield, Grantham, Hartford, Hartland, Lebanon, Plainfield, Weathersfield, and Windsor. Many are beginners and rent equipment, and might not ski or ride otherwise.
More than 130 youths participated in our winter vacation camps that include full day instruction and progression plans for each student. This program has very discounted prices.

After investing $7.1 million in 2013 Windham is now adding terrain, expanding services, and continuing to transform into a year round destination. Check out the highlights in the video.

Located in the bowl between the east and west peaks, the new terrain begins with a quick swoosh off Wraparound. Continued development of new trails within this area will ensue over the next couple of years. This is the 3rd new trail for Windham in the last two years, bringing total trail count to 53!

Windham Mountain Resort Spa

Windham Mountain Resort is constructing a full service spa and yoga center. Open all four seasons, the slope-side spa will boast world class services, treatment and products. Non skiing resort-guests will also have easy access to the spa, which is conveniently located at the base of the new beginners' area Whisper Run built in last year's expansion.   BTW, don't forget the Ahimsa Yoga and Music festival,  October 4th - 5th at Windham Mountain Resort.

Renovated 3rd Floor Restaurant

Après ski just got bumped to first class. Windham Mountain Resort will open a totally redesigned bar / restaurant in the location formerly known as Legends. Vaulted ceilings will compliment two new bars, one facing Windham Mountain and the other facing the Valley. Two fireplaces will keep guests warm and toasty after a long day on the hill. It will also be one of the largest banquet and entertainment facilities in the area allowing for larger events.

Lift Served Mountain Bike Park Announced for 2015

Construction of the Windham Mountain Bike Park is underway. Scheduled to open next summer, the Park will feature two new intermediate flow trails, existing World Cup trails, a pump track, bike rentals and food and beverage. Pats Peak just announced new trails and more for the coming 2014.15 winter ski and snowboard season. Two New Trails and One New Glade For The 2014/2015 Season along with snowmaking improvements and more. This is the 52nd consecutive ski and snowboard season under the same local family ownership. Pats Peak Ski Area improvements for the 14/15 season including two new trails and one new glade as part of the Cascade Basin expansion.

Cascade Basin
2 New Trails and 1 Glade - Pats Peak will unveil 2 New Trails and 1 New Glade in the Cascade Basin area. These new trails will be lined with state-of-the-art “snowflake technology” to continue to provide quality snow surfaces you’ve come to expect at Pats Peak.

The new beginner trail, Cascade Brook, will meander and follow the contour lines nicely with some great twists and turns. Adventure seekers will be able to pop off skiers left into a new gladed tree section.

Scirocco (shuh-rok-oh) is a black diamond trail that falls away skiers' right off of the Crosswind trail. She’ll cut left, then right through some trees all the while giving you some of the best sun and bumps on the mountain. She’ll drop you off at the bottom of the lift where you’ll get a chance to catch a break.

Additional Energy-Efficient Snowmaking Guns - Every year the snowmaking efforts gain enhancements to provide even more snowmaking power to the trails. This is a must for ensuring quality conditions all season.

This season seven additional Fan Guns from Snow Machines Inc. will be added to the snowmaking arsenal to improve snow output. Fan guns require 80-85% less compressed air than other technologies, while putting out more snow in marginal temperature conditions.

An additional 20 new low energy snowmaking towers from HKD Snowmakers will also be added to the fleet.

More Rental Equipment
Pats Peak is home to northern New England’s largest rental shop. Every season the Starting Gate Rental Shop continues to add to its already impressive rental fleet. This season PATS PEAK has invested over $100,000 in new rental equipment including skis, boots, junior skis, junior boots, twin tip skis, ski poles, helmets, Burton Learn-to-Ride snowboards, bindings and snowboard boots.

The state-of-the-art 9,600 square foot Rental Shop provides fast service to renters along with a carpet lift that takes guests and their equipment up to the slopes.

Updated High-Speed Internet Service
And finally if all goes according to plan, we will have 10 times the wireless internet access capabilities in our lodge with an all new high-speed internet service. There are lots of moving parts to make this happen but if the utility company does what is says it will do, the logjams will be a thing of the past.
